My Story: Why I Do This Work
I'm Dr. Aerin Sembhi—board-certified in Internal and Integrative Medicine, and a mother of four. But long before I became a doctor or a mom, I was shaped by the women in my family.
Both of my grandmothers lived with chronic pain—one from a partial leg amputation, the other from nerve injury as a child. They were strong, loving mothers who gave everything they had, even when their health made daily life incredibly hard. Seeing the impact their health had on their family taught me early on how deeply a mother’s wellbeing affects her entire family.
I also grew up with a deep respect for food and medicine. My grandfather was a nutritional biochemist, which I also studied in college, and I carried that legacy into my own medical training. By the time I had my first baby—during my final year of residency—I thought I knew exactly how to nourish myself and my child.
But motherhood had other plans.
My first baby was anemic, had eczema, digestive issues, and couldn’t sleep. Despite all I knew, I found myself exhausted, cutting out more and more foods, and eventually developing Bell’s Palsy. I was depleted, confused, and no longer felt like myself.
At the time, I had been vegetarian for 15 years. I wanted to reintroduce animal foods to help my son—but for cultural reasons, we stuck with supplements. We had our second child, and around that time I had a copper IUD placed. Then came a move and multiple stressors at once and I hit a wall.
I felt tense, reactive, and disconnected from the calm person I used to be. I had weekly headaches and a constant sense of unease. I knew something had to change.
Healing, the Integrative Way
That turning point led me to go back to the foundations of nutrition and rebuild our family's health from the inside out. I expanded our diet, addressed environmental exposures, and tailored our lifestyle to our actual needs. As I studied deeper into nutritional biochemistry and integrative medicine, I saw how minerals, vitamins, inflammation, hormones, and stress regulation were all connected.
My headaches went away. I felt grounded again. I returned to a healthy weight—without dieting. And most importantly, I became the mother I wanted to be.
I went on to have two more babies at ages 38 and 40—and recovered more easily than I had with my first.
It was clear: this kind of care should be standard for every woman.
My Mission
At Sembhi Integrative, I help women create a legacy of health—starting with themselves. Using evidence-based integrative care, we tailor nutrition, regulate stress, support hormonal balance, and promote deep healing in the early years of motherhood.

This program is best for women who are generally healthy or have mild health concerns and want expert support in preconception preparation or postpartum recovery.

From Overwhelmed to Empowered - hear what other women are saying about Dr. Sembhi.
I recently saw Dr Sembhi for postpartum related concerns (mastitis, pelvic floor) and she offered a range of helpful advice and treatments to help me tackle these issues. I appreciated that she was available for longer sessions to work through these concerns vs the brief visits I typically have with my OB. Thank you Dr Sembhi!

If you are looking for a change, to feel better mentally and physically, have more gratitude in your life, this is a program to help you achieve these goals. I lost weight, feel great, and feel more in tune with my body. I have simplified my life, habits and have gained valuable tools to deal with anxiety. I'm quite amazed how this program works as I have tried other programs and they didn't impact me as holistically as this one.
